  • This week was rough (from a small car accident to my child falling down a flight of stairs as I watched in horror) ... but no matter what you continue to allows us to be Great. Happy Father's Day!!! (S/N he complains everytime he finds out I posted a picture of him, so this is my solution 🤣🤣🤣 🤷🏾‍♀️)

I've watched you grow as a son, brother, cousin, friend, uncle, and now husband and father and I couldn't be more proud of you.

This week I wanted to quit. I started feeling overwhelmed by Social Media and felt my priorities were misaligned. I felt like I wasn't getting the support I need for this blog...and then he reminds me... I've come this far without support from anyone. I've never achieved many goals on the basis of support, so why should this be any different. He reminded me of who I am and what I've become. .
.
.
I started this blog a few months ago simply bc I saw: ☕ misinformation being spread
☕ not enough mother's that look or live like me (on social media)
☕ wanted an outlet to share my journey and let others know they aren't alone
☕ talk about real parenting issues
☕provide provide valuable information, resources, and insight for families. .
.
☕ I rarely quit anything... so why should this be any different?
  • June is Pride Month, and in Brooklyn, TODAY is BROOKLYN PRIDE DAY. I decided to compile a few books together for various age groups.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☕️As a minority mother, it is important that inclusion and representation exist. This helps self image, and so I have selected a few books that highlight key issues.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(The first two are children👶🏽👧🏽 books) 📚👶🏽👧🏽It Feels Good To Be Yourself: A Book About Gender Identity, by Theresa Thorn 📚👶🏽👧🏽When Aidan Became a Brother, by Kyle Lukoff

  • Yes it's her Godmommy's birthday, (@soniques_gifts) We'll get back to that Gemini in a few 🤣🤣🤣 We interrupt her bday to wish this Diva a Happy HALF 1/2 birthday!!!!! (We love you Sonia)

My Baby is 2 1/2 today!!! Yes I'm shouting out her half birthday bc I will find any excuse to celebrate life. Ain't no reason to wait till life is over, we celebrating while we are breathing.
Too my incredibly Smart, Sweet, and Sassy Sagittarius You make life feel like it's dessert 🤣🤣🤣 My baby enjoyed her pasta session with @adorjephotography . I don't have many pictures from my childhood and I can't stand my cell phone pictures so we are making memories and capturing it. Every time CharlieB looks at these pictures she say "Charlotte cooking "bc my baby loves to cook.
Btw that is real food and those are her real pots and pans that she uses at home.

  • “Children are great imitators. So give them something great to imitate.” — Anonymous ☕ The Great Imitation of Life... Starring the Best Imitators - CHILDREN!!! ☕I remember growing up constantly hearing "Children are to do as they are told not..." if I questioned it I was punished. I hated that statement then and I hate it now. Just mentioning the statement gives me horrible flashbacks. I hated conflicting messages then and can't stand them now. ☕I try my best to display the behavior and standards I want my children to live by...so these quotes resonates with me, simply because I do feel children learn through imitation. ☕ I strongly believe there is no such thing as "One size fits all" when it comes to parenting, but as James Baldwin states, children have never failed to imitate elders. ☕ I see this in how my two girls play with their toys. How they talk to me. Just their day to day interactions. ☕ CharlieB's new thing is to respectfully tell me no. It's quite comical. I'll ask her to please do something, she will pause and say "No thank you, mommy" and I look at her like how can I even get mad. She was very polite about it. (I try my best not to laugh, but she's so cute about it) (Plus manners are a HUGE thing for my husband and I) So I'll respond, well thank you for letting me know you don't wish to do it, but mommy isn't asking you, we have to do this despite the fact you may not want to. Of course I still get resistance, she's 2, but I'm happy she is displaying politeness even when it isn't quite the time too 🤣🤣 ☕ Are you Team Children Do as Told or Team Children Do as they See? ☕ Where do you stand and why? Back it up now! 🤣🤣🤣 Tell me How You Really Feel? JUDGEMENT FREE ZONE ....

  • ☕️Brooklyn Cocoa Mommy's Recommendation:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📕UnOrthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots, A Memoir By Deborah Feldman
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☕️Living in Brooklyn, I am surrounded by so many different cultures, and the Hasidic Culture is deeply rooted in Brooklyn... My office husband is Orthodox (Jewish), and we always have interesting converstations about Judaism and the differences between the various sects. He recommended this book to me and I was not disappointed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☕️This book not only is enlightening into a whole other world, but it is inspirational as well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

📚The HATE U GIVE, by Angie Thomas⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☕️Happy Reading 🥰⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☕A Note from the Author:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The story behind The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I remember the first time I saw Emmett Louis Till.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I couldn’t have been more than eight years old. I came across his photo in a Jet magazine that marked the anniversary of his death. At the time, I was convinced he wasn’t real, or at least that he wasn’t a person. What was supposed to be a face was mutilated beyond recognition. He looked more like a prop from a movie to me; a monster from some over-the-top horror flick.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But he was a person, a boy, and his story was a cautionary tale, even for a black girl in Mississippi who was born more than three decades after he died. “Know your worth,” my mom would say, “but also know that not everyone values you as much as I do.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Still, Emmett wasn’t real to me. There was no way I’d ever have to worry about anything like that happening to me or to someone I knew. Things had changed, even in Mississippi. That was history. The present had its own problems⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I grew up in a neighborhood that’s notorious for all the wrong reasons. Drug dealers, shootings, crime, insert other “ghetto” stereotypes here. While everything they showed on the news was true, there was so much more that you wouldn’t see unless you lived there. It was my home. My neighbors were family. The neighborhood drug dealer was a superhero who gave kids money for snacks and beat up pedophiles who tried to snatch little girls off the street. The cops could be superheroes too, but I was taught at a young age to be “mindful” around them. So had my friends. We’d all heard stories, and though they didn’t come with mutilated photos, they were realer than Emmett. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
